How is the menstrual cycle regarded within Islam?
bouncy ball asked:
Hi, I’m just curious as to what the religion of Islam has to say about a woman’s menstrual cycle. Does it have any meaning or significance? Thanks!

Also, during Ramadan, does fasting have any affect on the menstrual cycle?

We believe menstruation to happen for the scientific reason, not a religious one.
One rule we have is that there is no sex during a woman’s menstruation period as it is forbidden. It is also forbidden to touch a Mus’haf (Arabic Qur’aan)

Women don’t fast or pray when were are on our periods. We are given a break , because of the effects it has on our body. We can touch our husbands as we like , but sex is forbidden during menstrual cycle.

Nope. Well, scientifically, we get menstrual cycle to produce offspring.
However, there are Islamic perspectives on this. We cannot fast or pray when we are on period, and when it has ended, we must make “Ghusl”, a shower.
We cannot have intercourse during this because it is harmful for women.
You may have heard that having intercourse during period can ease cramps, but that’s not true. It actually harms women, so that’s why it is prohibited.
Yes, Lulu is correct. You cannot touch Qur’an because Qu’ran is pure and you are impure, so there is no sense of touching it.
EDIT: Also, when women have given birth, and she gets period for 40 days, then she is not required to pray or fast or having sex.
After 40 days, she must make Ghusl, but (this is what I heard…I may be wrong) if the period continues for a long time, then she can have sex….but I am not sure exactly.

That its natural and happens to most girl/women.
During menstruation Muslim women are excused from praying salah and fasting. A reason for this is that they are more likely to feel tired, weak etc… (PMS).
Oh also no sex during menstruation and touching the Holy Qur’an.

It is a “discomfort,” “unclean,” “impure,” a “hurt,” a “pollution,” and an “illness.”
Don’t believe me?
[Shakir 2:222] And they ask you about menstruation. Say: It is a discomfort; therefore keep aloof from the women during the menstrual discharge and do not go near them until they have become clean; then when they have cleansed themselves, go in to them as Allah has commanded you; surely Allah loves those who turn much (to Him), and He loves those who purify themselves.
[Yusufali 2:222] They ask thee concerning women’s courses. Say: They are a hurt and a pollution: So keep away from women in their courses, and do not approach them until they are clean. But when they have purified themselves, ye may approach them in any manner, time, or place ordained for you by Allah. For Allah loves those who turn to Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean.
[Pickthal 2:222] They question thee (O Muhammad) concerning menstruation. Say: It is an illness, so let women alone at such times and go not in unto them till they are cleansed. And when they have purified themselves, then go in unto them as Allah hath enjoined upon you. Truly Allah loveth those who turn unto Him, and loveth those who have a care for cleanness.
[Shakir 2:223] Your wives are a tilth for you, so go into your tilth when you like, and do good beforehand for yourselves, and be careful (of your duty) to Allah, and know that you will meet Him, and give good news to the believers.
[Yusufali 2:223] Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will; but do some good act for your souls beforehand; and fear Allah. And know that ye are to meet Him (in the Hereafter), and give (these) good tidings to those who believe.
[Pickthal 2:223] Your women are a tilth for you (to cultivate) so go to your tilth as ye will, and send (good deeds) before you for your souls, and fear Allah, and know that ye will (one day) meet Him. Give glad tidings to believers, (O Muhammad).
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: women are a tilth for men.
