Making Money Online1

The internet is filled with “get rich quick” schemes and claims of people who have made “$100,000 in 60 days”. However, if you are serious about making money on the internet and turning your efforts into a true home-based business, you should be focusing on building a business for the long term. There are three main reasons for this:

1) It is doubtful that many of the get-rich-quick claims are actually true. Even if they were, most of them would undoubtedly be the result of many months of serious work to develop the skills necessary – and a lot of luck;

2) Focusing on the quick-fix gives you a much lower chance of success. I am sure this is why 98% of internet marketers fail to recoup their costs and why so many just give up;

3) Building a long-term business not only gives you income on a regular basis, but you are also building an asset; an online business with a good history of sales and profits would be very attractive should you want to sell it.
So now that you’ve decided you’re going to go for long term success, what are the key ingredients. If you get these clear from the start you will keep motivated and have a much greater chance of winning the online game.

1) Mindset: Although it’s a bonus if you start making money instantly, most strategies that you employ will take a while to bear fruit. If you have the attitude that you will carry on until you succeed, and you persevere, you will certainly win.

2) Goals: Set realistic goals, both in income you want and time frame. Unlike what some of the self-help gurus say, I believe it is better to aim lower rather than higher. This is because if you achieve your target it gives you a strong motivation to continue, this time with a higher goal. Don’t set your goals too low, but if you set them higher than you are comfortable with you will be discouraged if you don’t achieve it, and may well give up.

3) Focus: Decide on one online business and give it your full attention. Commit to working it for a reasonable length of time (for example, three months). In this period don’t be tempted to think it won’t work and move on to something different. ANY online business will take a while to get off the ground. The one you’re working on is no different so give it time and effort.

4) Plan: Think carefully about the following:

a) How much time per day you will devote to the business;

b) what different functions are required and what exactly you will do with each (for example – admin, email answering, marketing)

c) Internet marketing: the success of your online venture will be directly proportional to the quality and quantity of the marketing you do. Decide what types of marketing you will concentrate on and create a weekly schedule of your activities.

5) Implement: Finally, and most importantly, implement your plan and work on it consistently. One internet millionaire interviewed by the Internet Millions 123 Club says the key to his success is that he does one marketing activity every single day.
